Easiest scarf ever

Saw a cute gingham scarf tutorial on the I Heart Linen blog and the very next day, Mom called me from Hobby Lobby to ask if I needed anything while she was there. Gingham, please! I wanna make some scarves!
That day was cold and rainy so suppose the gingham happy spring colors didn't grab her. Instead she grabbed 2 yards each of 2 tan and black print fabrics. One check, the other plaid. Love plaid and tartan, don't ya know.
Cut 8 scarves 2 yards in length and about 8 to 10 inches in width. In little time, all scarves were fringed and I had a large ball of thread on my lap. My fringe tips:

• use a straight pin


• stick pin in the middle of fringe edge


• separate 1 or 2 threads


• drag pin away from fabric until threads are free


• repeat repeat repeat


• match fringe length on opposite side

Instead of following the directions and folding over the long edges twice, I simply ran a straight stitch. It kinda disappears when the edges roll over while wearing.

Super fast, super cheap and super easy.

The inspiration behind the silk skirt

Just realized I didn't show ya the Dolce & Gabbana silk scarf skirt that inspired my attempt at a pieced multi pattern skirt.
I first spied it in W fashion magazine and found it online for $2480.00 - NOW half price!
In truth, it is a clever idea of piecing 4 scarves (2 for front, 2 for back) but the coordination of scarves is, to my eye, not great. Click link above to see the back view of skirt.

• Check out your scarf stash or get yourself to a thrift store and whip up one of these skirts!
• Scarf provides finished edges on hems and finished edges on seams
• All ya gotta do is make a drawstring waist or add a waistband!
  
  

Cute wool skirt for a cute girl

After that 16 skirt marathon with Chrysanthemum,

I had a few scraps remaining

and because I am my mom's daughter,

I felt compelled to make a little girl skirt with them.

Appliqued flower petals made from contrasting tweed fabric

and sewed 2 vintage stacked buttons in the center.

Cute, huh?

Scarf swap

People Make Me Stuff!
My Craftster scarf swap partner sent me not one but two scarves! WooHoo! This black and white number has zippered pockets on each end. What a perfect place to stash my gin flask for Mardi Gras parades!

What to put in the other pocket? Looka, my swap partner filled it with goodies.


Check out the other scarf in pink and black combination, it looks great with two of my coats!

Plus my swap mate sent me more winter care goodies and lots of hot beverage mixes. Thanks, Jloveg!

Scarf swap

Just completed another Craftster swap and made this silk scarf for my partner. She likes pastels so hopefully she'll appreciate the different colors in this fabric. Added glass beads to the ends of scarf.

And as I often say, "Presentation is everything". My partner indicated that she liked country stuff so I opted for simple brown paper bags and box, waxed twine and bias tape ribbon.

Okay, this looks like two silk scarves for me but shown are reverse sides of fabric. Glass bead trim was handsewn to ends.

Silk tie fabric scarf

My buddy Eileen sent me a stash of fabulous silk tie fabric so I just had to make her something wonderful to show my undying gratitude. She likes purple and a bit of glitz, thus, the bead trim.

Hey, remember that post about "people give me stuff"? My buddy Kay gave me the purple bead trim! Crafting karma, I tell ya! Eileen gives, she gets back. Kay gives, she gets . . . oops, better go make something for her!
