Light saber t-shirts

Rikki Tikki Tavi gave me a few new T-shirts to embellish for the brat nephews. Knowing they are way into Star Wars these days,

• I found a super easy tutorial for drawing light sabers HERE at DragoArt.
  
• Traced the light beam onto a smaller paper backed piece of WonderUnder
  
• Ironed the WonderUnder to reverse side of green cotton and yellow silk fabric scraps.
• Traced light saber hilt separately onto that cool reflective fabric sample from Ernest.
  
• Ironed fusible to fabrics.
• Carefully trimmed fabric, using the previously traced lines.
• Peeled off paper backing from fused fabric.
• Ironed the 2 part light saber to shirts.
• Machine stitched the light saber beam in matching thread.
• Also on sewing machine, outlined the saber hilt with black thread for a subtle detail.

Heck, at this point,
I'm just hoping
the light sabers aren't
mistaken for dildoes.

Birthday T-shirt

Embellished a couple T-shirts for Baby Cutie's first birthday. Eileen and Ernest are hosting a crawfish boil/birthday party for him so motif shirts were in order. Please to enjoy.

Crawfish/lobster motif drawn onto back of WonderUnder paperbacked fusible web. Image trimmed. Ironed to shirt. Appliqued with fast and sloppy stitching. After laundering, the orange knit fabric will curl up and look even more distressed (in a good way).

Numeral drawn onto shirt with water erasable pen. Outline stitched and filled in with little seed stitches. Super fast and super easy. Just like your ma.

It started with a hole

Have a soft and comfy T-shirt with a small mystery hole. DANG!

What's a girl to do?

A girl with a sewing machine AND a long strip of black and white gingham selvage from her latest fringed scarf jag?

Placed shirt on form and had the gingham scrap coiled in my left hand and let it drop. I shit you not, it fell almost as you see it in the top photo. What could be easier? Pinned it and tacked down with a fast and sloppy stretch zigzag stitch. Added a big old vintage button to flower's center.

Still have the hole but not visible to the naked eye. Did that sound nasty to you too? You're welcome.

Rotary cutter and idle hands

Saw this tutorial by ThreadBanger several months ago for a cool fabric tube necklace made by cutting strips from the body of a t-shirt and dang it all if I didn't find a scrap on my cutting table sitting right by the rotary cutter.
After you cut the strips, tug on the fabric and it magically coils into a tube.

Robot on your shirt

Nephew Walter drew a robot and I thought it was the cutest thing ever, which inspired me to stitch in on a T-shirt. Taped his drawing onto a light box and traced with fabric transfer pen.

Ironed on and embroidered.

Oh, update: Walter's little brother Gregory asked where his shirt was. Oops. Draw something and I'll stitch it, I promised him. Later that day, Walter told his mom that he drew an image for Gregory's shirt. His mom RikkiTikkiTavi told him that indeed, Gregory should draw something for his own shirt but asked to see the Walter's artwork. Walter proudly displayed a rendering of a unicorn. She said it was nice but unicorns are usually seen on girl's shirts. Walter smiled broadly. A smartass at 6 years old, he makes me proud, I tell ya. Sniff.

Kitty on MY shirt!

Finally, an embroidered T-shirt for myself!

Stitched with an Aunt Martha iron-on design.
Employed Ultra Solvy stabilizer.
Mostly backstitch.
Satin stitch on nose and thread spools.
Couched threads held by kitty stitcher and thread hanging from spool.
Laced backstitch on dress hem.
Vintage mother-of-pearl buttons sewed where buttons appear on pattern.

If the kitty stitcher looks a little cross-eyed, give her a break!
Hours spent hunched over a hoop, but happy hours, I tell ya!

Cat on your shirt

* Created some craft karma with a gift to Chrysanthemum and stitched this kitty cat on a knit t-shirt with an Aunt Martha iron-on transfer.
* Reinforced the knit with an interfacing product called Ultra Solvy to avoid stretching out while stitching in a hoop. The clear interfacing can be used in the hoop or applied to shirt. If applied, remove by dissolving in hot water.

* Grey outline stitches did not show up well on blue background so I filled stitches in with white floss.

* Petticoat effect created by interlaced backstitch. Also on bonnet.

* Lazy daisy stitch flowers on dress.

Embroidered "tattoo" T-shirt

Embroidered this cute T-shirt for my good friend Eileen and she properly bragged on it. (Don'cha just lurve it when someone KNOWS how to compliment and brag well?)

The pattern is an iron-on number by Dimensional Divine Style. It kinda reminds me of a tattoo pattern. But this is the best kind - non-permanent!
